DON'T QUIT, GET FIT
How to start working out when you have lost your motivation?
You’re tired, busy, it’s too cold, and so many other excuses can come to mind when it’s time to workout. The truth is that no matter how much you have worked out in the past, you can always find at least one excuse not to work out. It may be the weather (too cold or raining), you don’t have time (you have a ton of work to do), or you are too sore (from doing too much). You can always find an excuse; even if it is your last one, there will be another one tomorrow.
The good news is that these excuses are things you have control over, not things out of your control.
As a general rule, the more you want to do something, the harder it will be to stop. That’s because you will find more and more reasons not to do it.
But if you set yourself a goal that is easy to achieve, like going to the gym three times a week, you will get there without even trying. That’s because doing something every day has a pleasant side effect: you start looking forward to doing it again.
The key is reminding yourself of your goals every day. The little things can make all the difference.
For example: when you get up in the morning, look at your watch and think—Hmm, I have time for my workout. If your exercise time is five minutes longer than what you planned in advance, take it as extra credit toward your goal.
When you go for a walk instead of running on the treadmill or lifting weights at home, don’t sweat how long it takes; go for a brisk walk around the block until you feel tired; then go home and work out as much as you can before going back out again (this way you don’t waste time on breaks).
You don’t have to work out every day or even every week, but it can be really helpful to have a motivational strategy that works when you do decide to workout.
The main thing is to keep a positive attitude and remind yourself why you want to workout.
